Dear Dharma Friends,
This month, Geshe Gyalten has chosen the freshwater fish for our monthly animal liberation practice.
Date: Sunday, September 28, 2008
Time: 11:00 am
Place: Ananda Dharma Center
122 N. "5th" Street; San Jose, CA 95112
Geshe Gyalten will conduct a ceremony in which a Deity and his/her compassion will be invoked; then the fish kept in holding containers will be taken to the local lake and freed while participants will recite mantras and prayers for them with Geshe-la.
In Buddhist traditions, the practice of the animal release has known as a means to dedicate to the long life and good health of the Buddhist teachers, but it is also well known as a way to dedicate to the sick or homeless people or to the benefit of other people or situations. This dedication of merit is a common reminder to the practitioner of his or her motivation for spiritual practice: to benefit other sentient beings.
You may purchase the freshwater fish at the Asian grocery stores. Should you have any questions or problems buying them please contact me at 408-608-5632 or e-mail to me at hg_hdr@hotmail.com.
I look forward to the practice of the fish release with you on Sunday the 28th.
With joy and serenity,
H.G. Nguyen
Director of Animal Liberation Committee
